Starlink, the satellite internet service provider, has announced a new promotion for customers in Zimbabwe. The promotion offers a $290 service credit over the first year of service, reducing the cost of the Standard Kit for new users.

The promotion works by providing a discount that effectively reduces the cost of monthly service fees over the first 12 months when committing to a 12-month Residential service plan with the Standard Kit. Customers pay the full $412 upfront for the Standard Kit hardware but then receive service credits applied to their monthly subscription fees during the first year.

There are two possible ways the $290 credit is applied:

  1. The $290 is spread evenly over 12 months, giving a monthly discount of about $24.17, so customers pay approximately $26 per month instead of $50 during the first year.
  2. Alternatively, the $290 credit could cover the first 6 months fully, meaning customers would pay no monthly fees for the initial 6 months and start paying the full $50 monthly fee afterward.

It is important to note that in Zimbabwe, new Starlink customers are required to pay the full $412 price for the Standard Kit, despite the $290 service credit. This is in contrast to some other regions where the credit may be applied as a reduction on the upfront cost of the Kit.

In addition to the Standard Kit, the promotion also includes the Mini Kit, which costs $223 upfront and has monthly fees of either $50 or $30. However, the $290 service credit is not applicable for the Mini Kit.

The promotion is available in select areas, and new Starlink customers in these areas can receive a Starlink Kit at no cost when they commit to a 12-month Residential service. It is worth noting that the activation fee in high-demand areas like Bulawayo is separate from the promotion and will still be charged.

The Standard Kit now has three purchase options: Standard Kit 12-month sign up, Standard Kit (regular), and Mini Kit. The Standard Kit 12-month sign up option costs $412 upfront and has reduced monthly fees.

It is also worth noting that authorized resellers may offer the same terms as the Starlink website for this promotion, but have not confirmed yet. A page linked from the Starlink website provides further explanation, but it is not clear what that explanation is.

Customers should be aware that cancelling the service, changing the service address, failing to pay the bill on time, attempting to transfer the kit to another user, or cancelling during the 30-day trial and not returning the kit may result in charges for the $290 service credit.

  1. The promotion for Starlink's satellite internet service in Zimbabwe also includes the Standard Kit, where customers can choose a 12-month plan that reduces their monthly fees, thanks to the $290 service credit spread over 12 months, resulting in a reduced monthly bill of approximately $26.
  2. In the realm of space-and-astronomy technology, Starlink's promotion in Zimbabwe offers a tempting offer: customers can opt for a complete waiver of monthly fees for the first six months when committing to the 12-month Residential service plan with the Standard Kit, given that the $290 service credit covers the initial 6 months, afterwards requiring them to pay the full $50 monthly fee.
