Hyundai Transforms into a Mobility Tech Company with the Launch of Pleos

Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled its new software ecosystem, Pleos, marking a significant step towards its transformation into a mobility tech company. Pleos is designed to create a software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform and a connected mobility experience that spans vehicles, fleets, infrastructure, and cities.

At the heart of Pleos lies a proprietary vehicle operating system, known as the Pleos OS. This scalable, next-generation vehicle OS is built on advanced electrical and electronic (E&E) architecture, boosting SDV performance, scalability, and autonomous driving capabilities.

One of the key components of Pleos is Pleos Connect, a next-generation infotainment system set to launch in Q2 2026. With support for over 20 million vehicles by 2030, Pleos Connect will enable a broad in-vehicle app marketplace and offer a personalized user experience with rapid, quarterly AI and autonomous feature updates—a significant improvement over current annual updates by competitors.

Pleos Connect features a smartphone-like interface with multi-window functionality and AI-powered voice recognition through Gleo AI. It aims to redefine in-vehicle infotainment with unparalleled openness and scalability, built on Android Automotive OS (AAOS).

To foster innovation and diversify the in-vehicle app ecosystem, Pleos offers Pleos Playground, an open development platform for third-party developers. This platform facilitates the development of apps and vehicle control, contributing to a connected and user-centric mobility experience.

Pleos Playground provides access to essential SDKs, APIs, design guides, and sample codes, and allows the distribution of applications through the App Market. It also supports Plug & Play (PnP) technology, enabling direct integration of external hardware into vehicles.

Hyundai's vision for Pleos extends beyond individual vehicles, aiming to create a connected ecosystem where all mobility forms are linked via cloud software. This continuous software evolution and integration, from individual vehicles up to entire urban mobility infrastructure, is the ultimate goal of Pleos.

In addition to its in-house developments, Hyundai has formed strategic partnerships with leading tech and mobility companies such as Google, Uber, and Samsung. These collaborations are aimed at optimizing the wider transportation ecosystem.

Hyundai has also introduced the Next Urban Mobility Alliance (NUMA), a public-private partnership for optimizing urban transit through a cloud-based framework. NUMA aims to address societal challenges such as mobility equity, regional depopulation, and climate change by enhancing freedom of movement through innovative mobility solutions.

In summary, Pleos is Hyundai’s foundational software ecosystem driving its transition towards becoming a mobility tech company. It integrates autonomous driving, smart device management, cloud connectivity, and an open app ecosystem, enabling Hyundai to deliver advanced, user-centric, and constantly evolving mobility solutions.

  1. Hyundai Motor Group's transition into a mobility tech company extends to investments in real-estate, as they aim to create smart cities with connected infrastructures that support Pleos.
  2. The manufacturing industry will see a significant impact with Hyundai's commitment to evolving Pleos, looking ahead to include smart gadgets and data-and-cloud-computing aspects to enhance the overall user experience.
  3. Hyundai's transformation into a mobility tech company also opens opportunities for finance and investing, as they develop cutting-edge technology capable of revolutionizing the transportation and automotive sectors.
  4. With the launch of Pleos, Hyundai is not only revolutionizing the business model of the automobile industry but also acquired a unique position in the technology landscape, competing with tech giants in areas like smartphones and AI technologies.
  5. To facilitate future growth and innovation, Hyundai is constantly exploring partnership opportunities not only within the automotive and tech industries but also with businesses operating in other fields, like gadgets, real-estate, and finance.
