The telecommunications giant, EE, has announced the release of a new WiFi router, set to hit the market in the coming weeks. While the new device is not expected to offer any unique features beyond the Work, gaming, and Streaming modes, it is positioned as a mid-tier offering from EE.

One of the standout features of the new router is its eco-friendly design. Made from 95% recycled plastic, the router is a testament to EE's commitment to sustainability. The exact dimensions of the router have been revealed, with the device being approximately 10 inches tall and less than two inches wide.

More details about the back design of the new router will be unveiled in the coming weeks. It is believed that the new device will share a similar design to the booster box for the Smart Hub Pro, another WiFi router offered by EE.

In terms of connectivity, the new router is expected to support the use of part fibre connections for homes that aren't yet on a full fibre connection. However, it is not expected to support the top 1.6 Gbps broadband speed. Instead, it may be limited to 4x 1Gbps and 1x 2.5Gbps connections.

The new router is not the flagship Smart Hub Pro WiFi 7 model, but it is expected to be a WiFi 7 device. This means that it will offer increased connection speed compared to WiFi 6 and 6E. However, the specific bandwidth capabilities of the new router have not been confirmed beyond what WiFi 7 generally offers.

The new router will come with EE's new Work, gaming, and Streaming modes through the EE app. This will allow users to prioritise specific activities and ensure a smooth and uninterrupted experience.

It's worth noting that EE currently offers the Smart Hub Pro as their WiFi 7 router, which supports tri-band WiFi 7 including 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands. The EE Smart Hub Plus, on the other hand, is a WiFi 6, dual-band (2.4GHz & 5GHz) only router.

EE is also preparing to launch a new slimmer WiFi 7 router later in 2025 to replace the WiFi 6 Smart Hub Plus for slower-tier packages. However, this new device is separate and has not yet replaced the Smart Hub Plus officially.

In conclusion, the new EE WiFi router is a mid-tier offering designed to provide increased connection speed and sustainability. While it may not offer unique features beyond the Work, gaming, and Streaming modes, its eco-friendly design and support for part fibre connections make it an attractive option for many households.
