India, Brazil Strengthen Agricultural Ties: Chouhan's Visit Yields 'BRICS Land Restoration Partnership'

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has returned from Brazil, wrapping up a productive visit on April 21, 2025. His trip focused on strengthening ties and exploring collaborations in agriculture and agri-tech.

Chouhan's visit kicked off with his leading the Indian delegation at the 15th BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting in Brasilia. The event centered around sustainable and inclusive agricultural practices, with a key outcome being the launch of the 'BRICS Land Restoration Partnership'.

The minister also engaged in bilateral meetings with Brazilian counterparts, delving into cooperation in agriculture, rural development, and agri-tech innovation. Chouhan explored potential collaborations in soybean processing and technology transfer, aiming to reduce India's import dependency on this crucial crop.

Chouhan's itinerary included visits to soybean production plants and agri-tech institutions, where he discussed joint ventures in biofuels, food processing, and sustainable agriculture with Brazil's agribusiness community. He also met with representatives from agricultural sectors in São Paulo, exploring opportunities in technology exchange, sustainable farming practices, and enhancing crop productivity.

In addition to his official engagements, Chouhan participated in a tree plantation drive at the Indian Embassy in Brasilia, contributing to the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative.

Minister Chouhan's visit to Brazil has opened avenues for enhanced cooperation in agriculture and agri-tech between the two nations. His efforts to boost soya production and exports in India, along with the launch of the 'BRICS Land Restoration Partnership', are expected to have a significant impact on sustainable and inclusive agricultural practices within the BRICS bloc and beyond.
