IT Success of Kazakhstan Proclaimed at World Information Society Summit
In a significant stride towards digital innovation, Kazakhstan's Situational and Analytical Complex (SAC) project has emerged as the first-place winner in the "Role of Governments and All Stakeholders in the Promotion of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for Development" category at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2025.
The SAC project, a digital platform designed for analysis, monitoring, and real-time data management in the public sector, is a game-changer in Kazakhstan's socio-economic landscape. With the ability to cover over 500 socio-economic development indicators across all regions of the country, SAC enables strategic decision-making based on accurate, up-to-date, and systematically processed data. The system is currently utilized by the Executive Office of the President and the Department of Presidential Affairs, facilitating a deep transformation of management processes beyond simple open data or online services.
The WSIS Prizes, a prestigious competition that recognises excellence in the use of ICTs for development purposes, included approximately 1,000 projects from various countries this year. The SAC project was selected as the best entry in its category, marking Kazakhstan's first WSIS win since 2013 and underscoring the country's strong technological potential and leadership in offering impactful digital solutions on the global stage.
The WSIS+20 high-level event, which commemorated the 20th anniversary of the World Summit on the Information Society, a major UN initiative, served as the backdrop for SAC's achievement in Geneva. The victory highlighted Kazakhstan's progress in digital transparency and governance innovation, emphasising how the platform supports evidence-based, real-time governance and advances digital collaboration worldwide.
In a May interview with The Astana Times, Dauren Nuraliyev, head of the Engineering and Technical Center of the Department of Presidential Affairs, stated that the victory is an international recognition of Kazakhstan's digital progress. Nuraliyev further emphasised that digital transparency involves a deep transformation of management processes, with decisions at the highest level in Kazakhstan now being made based on accurate, up-to-date, and systematically processed data.
This significant achievement for Kazakhstan in the field of digital platform development and strategic decision-making is a testament to the country's commitment to leveraging technology for socio-economic development and innovation.
