Kamala Harris' Political Campaign Purchases Advertisement on Las Vegas Globe, Tight Race in Nevada Polls
Kamala Harris is set to run an ad on the Las Vegas Sphere beginning on Thursday, as announced in a campaign press release on Tuesday. This marks the first instance of a political campaign advertising on the Sphere, and it's part of an intense push to encourage voter turnout since polls in Nevada indicate Harris and Donald Trump, the neo-fascist former president, are neck and neck.
The Sphere, a $2.3 billion project, opened towards the end of 2023. Apart from being a music venue, it features 580,000 square feet of LED displays capable of showcasing advertisements. The cost of advertising on Sphere is approximately $450,000 per day, but campaigns purchasing an entire week's worth of advertising receive a discount. High-demand days like New Year's Eve can drive the daily ad rates up to $1-2 million, according to PR Week. The exact cost of Harris's advertising campaign remains undisclosed.
The ad, readily available on YouTube, carries the message "vote for freedom" and "vote for opportunity," featuring a photo of Vice President Harris. The slogan "when we fight, we win" also appears, along with "when we vote, we win."
A political pin displaying the words "vote for reproductive freedom" is included in the ad, a message Democratic voters believe will motivate people to vote. The 2022 midterm elections experienced significant voter turnout, largely credited to the U.S. Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade, allowing individuals to make personal bodily decisions.
Trump, a convicted felon notorious for his hate speech, appointed three Supreme Court justices who played a crucial role in the Roe v. Wade overturning and once boasted of eliminating abortion rights in the country, though he occasionally tries to distance himself from this stance as it's widely unpopular.
The Nevada polling averages are as close as possible. FiveThirtyEight's current average for the state shows Trump ahead by 0.2%, while the Democratic candidate led by 1.2% back in late August.
Nevada is one of seven states that are currently under intense campaign focus by both parties, with FiveThirtyEight's polling averages as tight as: Wisconsin (+0.1% Harris), Pennsylvania (+0.3% Trump), Michigan (+0.7% Harris), North Carolina (+1.2% Trump), Georgia (+1.5% Trump), and Arizona (+1.8% Trump).
The Harris campaign stated in a press release on Tuesday, "In the days leading up to Election Day, Team Harris-Walz is leaving no stone unturned to encourage voters to participate." The Nevada Sphere activation will serve as a significant component of their efforts, along with homepage takeovers of leading newspapers, mobile billboards in major cities, radio remotes and food trucks near early voting sites, community Get Out The Vote block parties, and a strong presence at local events like the East Las Vegas 'Cabalgata' horse parade.
Harris will visit Nevada on Thursday. Election Day is November 5th.
The tech-savvy Harris campaign is leveraging advanced technology, like the LED displays of the Sphere, to reach voters in the future. The cost of advertising on the Sphere's high-tech displays can vary significantly based on demand and special occasions.
