Gamescom Cologne 2025 Kicks Off with a Bang
The much-anticipated Gamescom Cologne 2025 has officially begun in Cologne, Germany, attracting a multitude of exhibitors and attendees alike. Over 1,500 exhibitors, including heavyweights like CI Games, Keen Games, Bethesda, and many others, are participating in this year's event.
The opening show, attended by 5,000 fans, was hosted by Geoff Keighley. He highlighted the dynamic nature of the gaming industry, benefiting from new technology that makes games increasingly visually impressive. Co-host Eefje Depoortere (Sjokz) added that the gaming event is just getting started.
Several new games were showcased during the Tuesday evening show. Among them were "Call of Duty - Black Ops 7", "World of Warcraft - Midnight", "Bloodlines 2", and a remake of "Resident Evil" called "Requiem". A new Lego Batman game called "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight" was also showcased, but no release dates were specified for this or Ron Gilbert's "Death by Scrolling".
The trailer for "Death by Scrolling" evoked a sense of nostalgia with its retro look reminiscent of gaming 30 years ago. Ron Gilbert, known for his gaming success with "Monkey Island" in the 90s, is the creator of this upcoming title.
Streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+, and Amazon Prime are also participating in the Gamescom event. Amazon Prime presented the second season of the post-apocalyptic action series "Fallout" at the opening show.
Nintendo is present at the event, promoting their Switch 2 console. The Switch 2, also known as a handheld, allows for a good gaming experience on the go or in the living room without a large display. Industry professionals and fans can try out the new games, including the newly showcased ones, in the coming days. This year's Gamescom Cologne has surpassed the 2024 event with the largest number of exhibitors ever, totaling 1,501. Let the gaming begin!
