Large aluminum sculpture transformed into a water cooling system for personal computers
In a remarkable display of both artistry and engineering, Mac Pierce has created a one-of-a-kind performance PC build featuring a massive aluminum snake casting inspired by the ouroboros, the ancient symbol of a snake eating its own tail. This impressive piece, standing roughly 30 inches tall and 24 inches wide, weighs over 30 pounds and is machined with finned water channels on its surface to function as a radiator.
The cooling system is sealed with a polycarbonate faceplate, and Mac Pierce has ensured the use of aluminum-compatible water cooling fittings to prevent galvanic corrosion. Although it may not cool as efficiently as purpose-built radiators, the system has proven effective, with the CPU temperature reaching a maximum of 51°C under heavy load.
This unique water cooling radiator serves dual purposes, both as a functional cooling component and an eye-catching art piece integrated into the PC build. In contrast, other elaborate custom water cooling setups, such as Herman Quinones' "Evolution" build, employ multiple conventional radiators combined with extensive fans to create high-performance yet visually striking cooling solutions.
While cases like the NZXT H9 Flow support large radiators up to 420mm, they typically focus on airflow and component separation rather than integrating artistic castings. Therefore, Mac Pierce's ouroboros aluminium casting stands out as a prime example of a large artistic casting serving as a custom water cooling radiator in a PC build.
The final product, with its silver aluminum exterior and blood-red coolant, is not only functional but also visually appealing. The rest of the PC was built to reside inside the ouroboros casting, resulting in a stunning final product that seamlessly combines art and technology.
- Mac Pierce's innovative design includes a custom water cooling radiator, made from aluminum, in the shape of an ouroboros snake, which serves as both a functional cooling component and an eye-catching gadget.
- In contrast to traditional PC cases that focus on airflow and component separation, such as the NZXT H9 Flow, Mac Pierce's performance PC build features a large artistic hardware casting serving as a unique water cooling radiator, merging art and technology.
