Mercedes-Benz Retires EQB Electric SUV, New Model Coming in 2026
Mercedes-Benz has discontinued its electric SUV, the EQB, after a brief production run. The car was removed from the German Mercedes website and is no longer available for purchase. Despite its early retirement, Mercedes plans to launch a successor in early 2026.
The EQB's sales figures did not meet expectations, with fewer than 3,800 vehicles registered in the first half of 2025. This may have contributed to its retirement. However, the electric vehicle market as a whole saw an increase in new registrations during the same period compared to the previous year.
Mercedes is set to introduce a new model to replace the EQB. This successor will be based on the modern MMA platform and feature an 800-volt system. This upgrade promises faster charging times and longer ranges, addressing some of the limitations of the EQB.
The EQB's retirement after four years marks a shift in Mercedes' electric SUV strategy. The upcoming successor, slated for early 2026, aims to build on the EQB's foundation, offering improved performance and range to compete in the growing electric vehicle market.
