Microsoft Expands Copilot Chat for Free in Core Office Apps
Microsoft is expanding its Copilot Chat service, now available for free in core Office apps. The tool offers document rewriting, data analysis, and slide deck creation. Meanwhile, Microsoft 365 Copilot, priced at $30 or €22 per user per month, provides premium features and deeper integration.
Copilot Chat's capabilities extend across various Office apps. It can rewrite documents in Word, analyse data trends in Excel, and draft slides in PowerPoint in mere seconds. In Outlook, it summarises long email threads or drafts polished responses. Copilot Chat is easily accessible via a sidebar in the respective app.
Microsoft is merging its sales, service, and finance Copilots into the existing Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription, set to take effect in October. Licensed users gain access to premium capabilities such as file uploads, image generation, and faster response times. The monthly subscription price for the full Microsoft 365 Copilot license per user is approximately €22, replacing the previous separate Copilot Pro add-on that cost about twice as much.
Microsoft's strategy is clear: make AI assistants ubiquitous in Office apps while providing a clear upgrade path for businesses. Copilot Chat's free rollout in core Office apps signals Microsoft's commitment to integrating AI into everyday work tasks, with premium features available through the Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.
