Milan's Residents Split on Tourism Impact as Tech and Industry Drive Growth
Tourism's impact on Milan is a mixed bag, with residents holding varying views on its effects on their city's culture and quality of life. Meanwhile, tech innovations and industry collaborations are shaping the city's tourism landscape.
A recent survey reveals that only a third (32%) of Milanese residents perceive tourism as a threat to their city's cultural identity. However, a majority (77%) link tourism to rising prices, and nearly six in ten (59%) feel their quality of life has declined in the past three years, largely due to costs and insecurity.
Contrasting this, residents in Milan's busiest tourist areas enjoy robust cultural offerings and services, with many reporting a high quality of life despite the high visitor numbers. However, some lower-tourism districts face challenges like congestion, insecurity, or lack of green spaces.
In a positive development, Asia Digital Engineering (ADE) has inked a long-term deal with Air France to provide heavy maintenance and modification services for its Airbus A330-200 fleet. This partnership is set to boost the city's aviation industry.
In the tech sphere, RateGain has launched UNO VIVA, the first CRS-integrated AI voice agent for hotels, now expanding to Europe. UNO VIVA ensures 100% call coverage, turning missed opportunities into revenue for hotels. This innovation has received endorsements from major players like Tripadvisor, Expedia Group, Booking.com, and Eu Travel Tech.
While Milanese residents hold differing views on tourism's impact, the city continues to invest in its cultural offerings and services. The aviation industry and tech sector are also driving growth, with partnerships and innovations set to enhance Milan's tourism landscape.
