Minecraft Mastermind Unveils CraftGPT, a Redstone Chatbot
Minecraft innovator Sammyuri has pushed the game's limits again with CraftGPT, a chatbot built entirely within Minecraft using over 439 million redstone blocks. This small language model, with about 5 million parameters, offers a unique chat experience but faces challenges in speed and depth.
CraftGPT, showcased on GitHub, is not a rival to traditional chatbot sites. It struggles with chat quality, depth, and response time, taking about two hours to answer simple prompts, even with an increased tick rate. Sammyuri, known for building a standalone 16-bit CPU and an IRIS Computer capable of running DOOM in Minecraft, used Redstone to construct CraftGPT's tokenizers and matrix multipliers.
The model has 5,087,280 parameters, an embedding dimension of 240, a vocabulary of 1,920 tokens, and consists of 6 layers. It was trained on the TinyChat dataset and functions as advertised, but responses take hours to generate. CraftGPT is a massive structure in Minecraft, measuring 1,020 by 260 by 1,656 blocks, totaling 439 million blocks. Most weights are quantized to 8 bits, and it has a context window size of 64 tokens.
Sammyuri's CraftGPT is an impressive feat of Minecraft engineering, demonstrating a functional AI created purely with redstone circuits. However, its slow response time and limited chat depth make it less practical for everyday use compared to traditional chatbot sites.
