MIT Lincoln Lab Acquires Saab 340 for Flight Test Facility

MIT Lincoln Laboratory has acquired a Saab 340 aircraft, previously used for commercial passenger and cargo transport, for its Flight Test Facility. This move reduces costs for Lincoln Laboratory sponsors by transitioning the aircraft from leased to government-owned.

The Saab 340, now a permanent fixture at the facility, has been modified with advanced radar, sensing, and communications capabilities. These enhancements enable the aircraft to support research and development (R&D) in national security. The acquisition ensures that these capabilities are retained for present and future R&D needs.

The Saab 340's integration into the MIT Lincoln Laboratory Flight Test Facility marks a significant advancement in the lab's R&D capabilities. By owning the aircraft, the lab reduces costs for sponsors while maintaining and expanding its R&D potential in support of national security.
