Montra Electric Unveils India's First 55-Ton Electric Prime Mover
Montra Electric has introduced the Rhino 5538 EV, a 55-ton electric prime mover, to the Indian market. This heavy-duty vehicle, the first of its kind in India, is powered by a 282 kWh LFP battery and offers a range of nearly 198 km. The company has also inaugurated India's first all-women-monitored automated battery swap plant.
The Rhino 5538 EV delivers 380 HP and 2,000 Nm of torque, making it a powerful addition to the freight sector. Operators can choose between a fixed-battery pack or a rapid battery swap option, completed in under six minutes. This addresses the common hurdle of charging time and reduces the total cost of ownership.
Montra Electric's battery swap technology and all-women-monitored plant set it apart in the competitive landscape. The company's commitment to innovation and inclusivity is evident in these initiatives. The introduction of this electric heavy truck aligns with the global push towards hydrogen technology and electrification for climate neutrality in commercial vehicles.
The Rhino 5538 EV is priced at ₹1.15 crore (ex-factory) and comes with a ten-year/900,000 km AMC contract and a 95 per cent uptime guarantee. Its introduction could significantly cut particulate and nitrous-oxide pollution by 2050 and avoid substantial diesel consumption. Montra Electric's commitment to sustainability and innovation positions it well for the future of the heavy-duty vehicle industry in India.
