Moscow Launches First Autonomous Tram, Pioneering Russia's Public Transport Future
Moscow has launched its first autonomous tram, marking a significant step in Russia's public transport evolution. This comes despite the absence of a regulatory framework for autonomous passenger transport in the country.
The tram, equipped with advanced sensors, localization systems, and computer vision, began operating on September 3. This initiative by Moscow's city transport authorities aims to enhance public transport efficiency.
While Moscow leads the way, other cities like Krasnodar are also exploring autonomous tram technology. However, testing and refining these systems, as well as establishing a legal framework, are prerequisites for their launch in Krasnodar.
The autonomous tram in Moscow signals a new era in Russian public transport. As technologies improve and regulations are established, other cities like Krasnodar may soon follow suit, potentially revolutionizing urban mobility nationwide.
