Deutsche Telekom's Chief Technology Officer, Claudia Nemat, to Step Down

In a recent announcement, Deutsche Telekom has revealed that Claudia Nemat, the company's current Chief Technology Officer, will be leaving her board position. Her successor, Dr. Abdurazak (Abdu) Mudesir, a seasoned technology expert who joined Deutsche Telekom in 2018, will take over the role from October 1, 2025. Mudesir has been working closely with Nemat and previously held a key position at the Chinese tech giant Huawei, a major network supplier to Deutsche Telekom.

CEO Tim Höttges, whose own contract was recently extended until the end of 2028, commended Mudesir's tech expertise and hands-on approach. Nemat's departure, whilenot unexpected, marks a shift in succession plans as she had been seen as a potential successor to Höttges. Her departure follows the recent move of Srini Gopalan, once Höttges' favored successor, to the US subsidiary as Chief Operating Officer.

Upon leaving Deutsche Telekom after 14 years, Nemat has plans to invest in technology and AI locations in Germany and pursue international board mandates. Her tenure at the company began under the guidance of René Obermann, former CEO and Airbus supervisory board chairman, who brought her on board. Nemat has been instrumental in Deutsche Telekom's transformation, shaping its strategic direction and overseeing networks, IT, products, and cybersecurity since early 2017.

Abdu Mudesir currently holds dual roles within Deutsche Telekom – as Managing Director Technology at Telekom Deutschland GmbH and Group Chief Technology Officer of Deutsche Telekom AG. His contributions to the company include developing the mobile network, expanding the fibre network, and innovations in Open RAN, cloud infrastructure, and AI in network operations. Mudesir's appointment as the board member responsible for technology and innovation signifies Deutsche Telekom's commitment to sustaining its digital transformation. CEO Tim Höttges expressed gratitude for Nemat's collaboration and recognized her significant role in shaping Deutsche Telekom into one of the world's most successful telecommunications companies.
