Nio Sues Prominent Bloggers for Alleged Defamation
In a surprising turn of events, Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) has filed lawsuits against several social media influencers, including a well-known supporter of Li Auto, @大D有态度 (Da D You Taidu), on Weibo. This influential blogger, with 444,000 followers, is renowned for his support of Li Auto and detailed feedback on its products.
The lawsuits also encompass other accounts such as 海闲思录, 阿文鉴机, 山丘下的星星, 你真是个傻孩子, 至尊宝哥哥, and ιοиδ sch_A_, who are active on social media platforms like WeChat, Weibo, and Douyin.
The legal action comes amid a wave of alleged false information that targeted Nio and its sub-brand Onvo, just before the launch of the Onvo L90 SUV. Nio claims that this false information caused significant damage to its brand and the reputation of its employees[1].
The false information, which was widely disseminated online, attacked both Nio and Onvo brands. It was spread shortly before the official launch of Nio Onvo's L90 SUV, which is scheduled for July 31.
In response to being sued, @大D有态度 stated on Weibo that he would actively defend himself in court. The statement was released today by Nio's legal department, which alleged that the bloggers have defamed the company.
This is not the first time that Nio has taken legal action against bloggers. In the past, the company has faced similar issues with the spread of false information online.
As the automotive industry continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how companies will navigate the challenges posed by social media and the spread of misinformation.
