Nio submits minor exterior modifications for ES6, EC6, ET5, and ET5 Touring models in regulatory documents.
In a recent live video stream on Douyin, Nio's CEO, William Li, announced the upcoming facelifts for the Nio ES6, EC6, ET5, and ET5 Touring models. The facelifted models are expected to be included in China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) catalog, marking the final regulatory process before they can be sold in China.
The most notable change in the facelifted models will be the different design of their front bumpers, especially the fog lamp area, which has been changed from a triangular shape to a vertical bar. The facelifted models will also use horizontal center screens instead of the previous vertical ones, as per Li's announcement.
The four models - the ES6 SUV, EC6 coupe SUV, ET5 sedan, and ET5 Touring - have "differently styled front combination lamps and front and rear protection devices," according to their filing pages. However, as of the latest available information, there are no official announcements detailing specific interior updates for the upcoming facelifts.
Industry reports primarily focus on core features, pricing, and exterior options, but do not mention revamps to the interior design or technology for these facelifted versions. That said, Nio's recent product strategies and timelines suggest that possible areas for improvement could include updated infotainment systems, enhanced materials, ambient lighting and comfort features, and increased connectivity.
For the ET5 Touring specifically, industry coverage highlights it as a combination of the ET5 with a station wagon body, but does not specify any major interior changes for an upcoming facelift.
The facelifted models will be included in the latest MIIT catalog, but specific details are not provided. It's also not specified whether the facelifted models will retain their differently styled front combination lamps and front and rear protection devices, or whether they will include an optional "Champion Edition" rear logo in English, or an additional body color of matte black, as suggested by the use of the matte black exterior color on performance cars.
Nio's CEO, William Li, also announced that the facelifted models will use Nio's own Shenji autonomous driving chip. The public can submit feedback between February 20-26 regarding the inclusion of these models in the catalog.
The ES6, EC6, ET5, and ET5 Touring are Nio's main sellers, delivering a combined total of 180,038 units in 2024. The exchange rate on February 8, 2023, was $1 = RMB 7.2855.
