Nissan Speeds Up EV Plans, Targets All-Solid-State Batteries by 2028

Nissan is accelerating its electric vehicle (EV) plans. The Japanese automaker aims to introduce all-solid-state battery-powered EVs by fiscal year 2028. This comes as Nissan's global entry into the EV market surpasses 1 million units, with Japan leading the way.

Nissan's EV journey began with the LEAF in 2010, which has sold over 650,000 units worldwide. The company has since expanded its EV offerings, with the Ariya, an all-electric crossover, launched in 2022. The Ariya features advanced technologies like e-4ORCE all-wheel control and ProPILOT 2.0. It has won multiple design awards, including the Auto Color Award 2021 Grand Prix and the Red Dot Design Award.

The Ariya's success follows the global rollout of the Nissan LEAF, which started selling beyond Japan in 2021. Meanwhile, the Nissan Sakura, launched in the Japanese minivehicle market in 2022, has received over 50,000 orders and won the Japan Car of the Year award.

By fiscal year 2030, Nissan plans to launch 19 electric vehicle models under its Nissan Ambition 2030 vision. With over 1 million EVs sold globally and cumulative sales of over 550,000 units in Europe and Japan combined, Nissan's commitment to electrification is clear. The upcoming all-solid-state battery EVs are expected to further strengthen Nissan's position in the global EV market.
