Nissan Unveils Electric Version of Micra, Amplifying Its Electric Vehicle Lineup
Nissan is set to rekindle its electric vehicle dominance, announced plans to introduce four new EVs by 2027, including updated versions of the Leaf and Juke, a new city car, and the fully electric sixth-generation Micra. The unveiling of the Micra Mk6 comes 21 years after the original's debut, with design inspiration drawn from the beloved 2002 Mk3 model.
The upcoming Micra will compete against the nearly identical-sized Renault 5 E-Tech, sharing its electric-only platform. To distinguish the two superminis, Nissan's designers have focused on unique external features, such as a long, horizontal concave "gelato scoop" along the sides and a rear design with dial-shaped lamps.
The interior of the new Micra largely mirrors that of the Renault 5, but subtler Japanese touches, like the Mount Fuji-inspired center console, set it apart. The Micra's decent front and back seating accommodations and 1106-liter luggage capacity showcase its practicality.
Two motor options — 120hp and 150hp— will be available, each paired with two lithium-ion battery variants and capable of up to 253–254 miles under optimal conditions. Nissan's e-Pedal system for one-pedal driving will also be featured, with adjustable regenerative braking and driving mode options.
Google is intertwined with the car's infotainment system, and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay comes standard. Safety features include emergency braking, lane keep, and adaptive cruise control, similar to the Renault 5 E-Tech.
Though pricing details have not been officially announced, the Micra's expected starting price will likely fall within the same range as the Renault 5 E-Tech, with deliveries expected in January 2026. The new electric Micra is poised to attract those who appreciate its understated, unpretentious design.
