Nvidia Project Digits seeks to broaden AI access for a wide array of individuals.

At this year's CES 2025, Nvidia made a significant announcement with the introduction of Project Digits. This mini PC, aimed at AI developers, is set to revolutionise the field of artificial intelligence.

Project Digits is a powerful computer equipped with Nvidia's own NPUs for enhanced AI computation. It runs on Nvidia's Linux-based DGX OS and is powered by the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, a key component designed in partnership with MediaTek. This superchip combines a Blackwell GPU with a 20-core Arm CPU from MediaTek.

Nvidia partnered with industry giants like ASUS, Dell, and HP to bring GB10-based solutions to market, making Project Digits accessible to a wider audience.

The starting price for Project Digits is a reasonable $3,000, a stark contrast to the cost of assembling a comparable AI computer in the past, which could exceed $10,000. The device offers up to 4TB of NVMe storage and 128GB of unified memory.

One of the standout features of Project Digits is its ability to run 200-billion-parameter large language models individually, or 405-billion-parameter models when two Digits are paired together. This makes it an ideal tool for AI researchers, data scientists, and the education market.

Project Digits is designed to run large AI models without relying on cloud-based solutions, providing a more localised and self-sufficient approach to AI computation. The form factor of Project Digits is similar to a Mac Studio, making it a compact yet powerful addition to any workspace.

At CES 2025, Project Digits won the best use of AI award (Laptop Laurel), a testament to its potential impact in the AI field. While these AI PCs, despite their power, still lack the raw performance required for many complex generative AI tasks, Project Digits delivers a petaflop of AI performance, a significant step forward in AI computing.

Project Digits will be available for purchase from May 2025. This innovative device is set to make AI computation more accessible and powerful, transforming the way we approach artificial intelligence.
