Odenwaldkreis Takes the Lead in 5G Rollout
Deutsche Telekom Boosts 5G Expansion in Odenwaldkreis
Frankfurt, May 28, 2025
The Odenwaldkreis region in Hesse, Germany, has witnessed significant growth in 5G coverage, with an increase of over 20% in two years. As of 2025, approximately 508 square kilometers are covered by the 5G network, compared to 388 square kilometers in 2023. No other county in Hesse has seen such a strong expansion during this period.
The counties of Darmstadt-Dieburg, Main-Kinzig-Kreis, and Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis follow closely behind with an 17% increase each. Nevertheless, with a current coverage of 81%, the Odenwaldkreis ranks in the middle when compared to other counties in Hesse. Consequently, further expansion is necessary.
Michael Zieg, Hesse's municipal representative for mobile communications at Deutsche Telekom, confirmed that 39 sites currently operate in the county. The plan is to construct at least nine more sites over the next three years to enhance mobile connectivity in the region. He emphasized that land offers from municipalities and property owners are essential for the implementation of these new sites.
Deutsche Funkturm, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, accepts land offers at www.dfmg.de/location-offer. They build the sites and then lease them from landowners on a long-term basis. Prospective landowners are advised to ensure they have the necessary legal rights and meet the required site suitability criteria before offering land.
Factors to consider when offering land include location, environmental impact, technical feasibility, zoning regulations, and community engagement. The process typically involves an initial contact, site assessment and evaluation, a site visit and survey, a lease agreement negotiation, and installation and maintenance of the necessary equipment.
To initiate the process, interested parties are urged to visit Deutsche Telekom's location offer website or contact their representatives directly. As the demand for 5G services continues to rise, the expansion of 5G networks in the Odenwaldkreis promises to deliver improved mobile connectivity to more households and enhance regional digital infrastructure.
