OpenAI Unveils Apps SDK for ChatGPT at DevDay 2025
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman took the stage at DevDay 2025 in San Francisco to unveil the Apps SDK, a game-changer for ChatGPT users. The event also saw a live demo of AgentKit and a multi-billion dollar deal with AMD.
Altman's keynote speech introduced the Apps SDK, allowing users to interact with multiple apps directly within the ChatGPT dialogue window. This includes popular services like Figma, Canva, Zillow, and Coursera, with Expedia and DoorDash set to join soon.
In a live demo, OpenAI engineer Christina Huang showcased AgentKit, a tool that enables users to build functional agents in record time - less than eight minutes. OpenAI also announced the full general availability of Codex SDK, now integrated with Salesforce's Slack.
The tech giant revealed a multi-billion dollar deal with AMD earlier in the day. Additionally, OpenAI released new models to its API, including GPT-5 Pro, gpt-realtime-mini, and Sora 2, expanding its offerings for developers.
With the launch of Apps SDK, OpenAI is set to transform the way users interact with various applications. The integration of Microsoft 365 with Copilot AI assistant is among the upcoming features, promising advanced model selection, email attachment handling, and chat-based PowerPoint generation. Meanwhile, the AMD deal and new API models further cement OpenAI's position as a leader in AI innovation.
