Over a Million Igloo Coolers with Amputation Risk Pulled from Market
Updated Article:
Gear up, folks! The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for over a million Igloo rolling coolers, and your fingers might be thanking you for this heads-up. As per the regulatory agency's statement, around 12 instances of fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations can be traced back to these coolers.
Ever since January 2019, these Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers have been on the market, with retail prices ranging from $80 to $140. The recall covers approximately 23,000 coolers that made their way to Mexico and about 47,000 coolers in Canada, according to CPSC records. Though Canada's Consumer Product Safety Agency reports no injuries from these coolers in Canada so far, it's always better to stay informed.
The recall applies to all Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers manufactured before January 2024. The manufacturing date can be found on the bottom of the cooler, portrayed in a circular pattern. Look for an arrow pointing to the month of manufacture and the last two digits of the year inside that circle.

Igloo coolers are available in various body and lid color combinations, and the model numbers of all the recalled coolers can be found on the CPSC website [1], or on the label beneath the cooler itself.
These coolers can be purchased from big-name retailers like Costco, Target, Academy, Dick's, and many more physical shops nationwide. Online retailers including Amazon.com, Igloocoolers.com, and numerous other websites, are also part of this widespread distribution.
The CPSC warns consumers, suggesting they immediately stop using the coolers and contact Igloo to receive a free replacement handle. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has been a constant in federal agencies, despite the recent efforts by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk's DOGE team to reshape their role.
One can't help but wonder if regulatory agencies like CPSC are next on the list, considering their mission to protect consumers from hazardous or faulty products like these Igloo coolers. Maybe it's time to reconsider the importance of safety guidelines when it comes to everyday consumer items like Stanley mugs and Anker speakers.
Rumors have been swirling since Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was confirmed as Health Secretary that regulatory guardrails may soon be dismantled, requiring a shift in the society's perspective on public health and safety. Perhaps, with at least 12 people suffering from injuries due to faulty cooler lids, it's an excellent time to reevaluate our priorities.
