Pakistan's NCERT Warns of Severe 'Blue Locker' Ransomware Threat
Pakistan's National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) has raised the alarm over a severe cyber threat. The 'Blue Locker' ransomware is causing chaos, especially in the oil & gas sector, with key ministries and institutions warned of a high risk.
The NCERT issued an advisory to 39 key ministries and institutions, warning them about the ongoing 'Blue Locker' attacks. This ransomware has been actively targeting the oil & gas sector in Pakistan. While the specific company attacked on August 6 remains unidentified, the attack occurred just days before Pakistan's Independence Day on August 14.
Cybersecurity firm Resecurity has obtained samples of the 'Blue Locker' ransomware and conducted a thorough analysis. The Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has been significantly impacted by this malicious software. NCERT has also confirmed that other organizations in Pakistan have been targeted by the same ransomware.
The 'Blue Locker' ransomware poses a severe threat to Pakistan's critical infrastructure, particularly in the oil & gas sector. NCERT's warning underscores the urgency for key ministries and institutions to fortify their cybersecurity measures. Further details on the affected organizations and the extent of the damage are still being investigated.
