Polestar Faces Recall Query Over Persistent Rear-View Camera Failures in 27,816 Polestar 2 EVs
Polestar is facing a recall query from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for 27,816 Polestar 2 electric vehicles. The query follows reports of persistent rear-view camera failures, despite an earlier recall and software update.
In 2021, Polestar recalled certain Polestar 2 vehicles due to issues with the rear-view camera. The proposed remedy involved a software update to minimize graphical rendering limitations and shorten retry times of the camera streams. However, the NHTSA has received 109 complaints of persistent rear-view camera failures even after the recall remedy was completed. As a result, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has opened a recall query to evaluate the adequacy of Polestar's earlier remedy.
The recall query affects 27,816 Polestar 2 vehicles in the U.S. due to a loss of rear-view camera image. Polestar and the NHTSA are currently investigating the issue to ensure the safety of vehicle occupants.
