Police Crack Down on E-scooter Violations After Bünde Accident

In response to a recent e-scooter accident in Bünde, the police in the Herford district conducted a district-wide inspection of electric micro-vehicles on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. The inspection, which targeted users of e-scooters and similar vehicles, aimed to improve traffic safety and prevent future accidents.

The inspection followed an incident on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the intersection of Hochstraße / Wollfeldstraße in Bünde, where three people were injured. The local police, responsible for maintaining safety in Herford and Bünde, employed a combination of preventive and repressive measures during the inspection.

Out of the 100 vehicles checked, officers discovered 60 violations. These included riding in unauthorized traffic areas, carrying passengers (riding double), using bike lanes in the wrong direction, distracted driving due to smartphone use, underage operation by children under 14, and compulsory insurance offenses.

The police in the Herford district have made it clear that they are committed to ensuring the safe use of electric micro-vehicles. Following the recent accident and the subsequent inspection, users can expect continued vigilance and enforcement to maintain public safety.
