Potential Issues for Samsung Users: Galaxy S24, S23, and S22 May Experience Unforeseen Challenges

February 10 Update: One UI 7 and Android 15 Rollout for Galaxy S24 Series

Samsung has initiated the long-awaited rollout of One UI 7 and Android 15 for Galaxy S24 series users. However, the latest updates have also sparked some confusion and disappointment.

While die-hard Samsung enthusiasts eagerly awaited updates for older models, some S25 purchasers have already begun using their new devices. The delay for One UI 7 and Android 15 on older devices has become increasingly uncertain, with the latest update adding further complications to the situation.

In a concerning turn of events, tech leaker Ice Universe revealed on X (formerly Twitter) last Friday that the Galaxy S24 series would receive One UI 7.0 Beta 4, but the final version is still some distance away. One user lamented that Samsung's traditional swiftness with updates seems to have slowed, with even Motorola potentially moving quicker this time around. The delay, many feared, may be a strategic move by Samsung to promote the S25 series.

Initially, there was hope that One UI 7 would be rolled out to the Galaxy S24 series today, coinciding with the official launch of the Galaxy S25. However, the latest update leaves S24 users waiting longer for the stable One UI 7 release.

SammyFans painted a more somber picture, suggesting that older flagship phones like the S24 and S23 might have to endure further delays. The company has not yet completed the One UI 7 Beta Program and has not shared a definitive rollout schedule, raising concerns about the update's potential delay.

While Samsung is expected to release the upgrade this month as initially planned, it will occur later than anticipated. For Galaxy S24 users enrolled in the One UI 7 beta program, Beta 4 is currently available while they wait for the final version.

According to Android Police, Samsung follows a pattern of at least one to two weeks between the last beta and the stable release. This suggests that Galaxy S24 owners may receive One UI 7 around the third week of February. However, this delay is disappointing given that Samsung took a significant amount of time to release the beta for the S24 series.

Samsung's February update includes essential fixes, most significantly a security flaw related to USB devices. While details remain sparse, this type of vulnerability is commonly used by forensic tools to access data. Addressing this issue is of utmost importance.

However, a more significant concern arises from the Android 15 update. As per Android Police, Samsung is the only major Android brand that has not yet updated its 2024 flagship phones to Android 15, while other brands have already done so - even with mid-range devices.

Following the release of the Galaxy S25 on Monday, February 10th, Samsung started rolling out the February security update before the One UI 7 upgrade. This development suggests that the Android 15 update is unlikely to arrive anytime soon, perhaps not until the end of the month.

In related news, Samsung has released a new update for the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra, presenting the February 2025 security patch to enhance security. The update is currently available in Korea and will expand to additional regions soon. Galaxy S24 users continue to wait for the One UI 7 update, which Samsung already released with the Galaxy S25 series in January 2025. However, they are now receiving a One UI 6.1-based security update instead.

Important build numbers for the latest update are:

  • Galaxy S24: S921NKSS4AYA1
  • Galaxy S24 Plus: S926NKSS4AYA1
  • Galaxy S24 Ultra: S928NKSS4AYA1

It is crucial for users to install the update promptly. Despite the upcoming OS upgrade, this latest patch is significant.

SamMobile reported that users had anticipated a significant upgrade but were met with the disappointment of only receiving a security update. They noted, "Samsung released a new software update for the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra. However, it will disappoint fans because it does not include One UI 7 (Android 15), only security fixes."

As the Galaxy S25 becomes available, many had hoped that the One UI 7 update for older models would be released by mid-February. However, given Samsung's pattern of delaying security updates when a major Android and One UI update is nearing, this timeline now seems unlikely.

A week after Google and Samsung released their February security updates, the zero-day issue CVE-2024-53104 is still absent from the security bulletin, and it seems unlikely that it will be included. Samsung mentioned that some of its fixes in the Samsung Android Security Update cannot be shared immediately, a possibility that may also apply to Android updates. In the past, Samsung has fixed serious security issues in its regular updates and listed them in later bulletins. This pattern may be repeating itself now.

If users do not wish to wait for the safer One UI 7 update, their best option is to upgrade their device. As per SamMobile, "The fastest way to get One UI 7.0 is to buy a Galaxy S25 series phone." At present, the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra are the only devices running the stable Android 15-based One UI 7.0. The Galaxy S24 series is expected to follow, but given that Samsung has just released the February 2025 security patch for the S24 series in South Korea, the stable One UI 7.0 update will likely not occur this week.

In the midst of the One UI 7 and Android 15 rollout for the Galaxy S24 series, users are eager for updates on gadgets like smartphones. However, the delay in updates for older devices, such as the S23, has left their fate uncertain, stirring disappointment amongst tech enthusiasts.

Despite rumors suggesting the Galaxy S24 series would receive One UI 7.0 Beta 4, the release of the final version appears to be some distance away, adding to the concerns of Samsung users. Furthermore, Samsung seems to be the only major Android brand yet to update its 2025 flagship phones to Android 15, widening the gap with other brands.
