Professor Svetha Venkatesh Named Top 15 Women in AI Globally

Professor Svetha Venkatesh, a leading computer scientist in both India and Australia, has been recognised as one of the top 15 women in Artificial Intelligence globally. At Deakin University, she co-leads the Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute (A2I2), strategically tackling global issues with real-world impact.

Professor Venkatesh's journey began at IIT Roorkee, where she studied Electronics and Telecommunication. She then pursued a Master's in Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi. Her passion for pattern recognition blossomed during her PhD in Computer Science at Curtin University. Today, she pushes the boundaries of AI in health, safety, sustainability, and more, leading a team at Deakin University's A2I2 that focuses on solving pressing global problems.

As a young lecturer, Professor Venkatesh reached out to Professor Barney Glover AO to discuss her ideas on pattern recognition. This led to her first mentorship, setting the stage for her influential career. She believes in fostering cross-cultural environments to nurture excellence in AI.

Professor Svetha Venkatesh's dedication to translating AI research into real-world impact has earned her a place among the top 15 women in AI globally. At Deakin University's A2I2, she continues to lead her team in strategically chosen projects, aiming to improve lives worldwide through AI.
