Proposals put forth by the Commission have been outlined in several instances.
Freie Wähler Advocate for Industrial Revitalization in Germany
The Freie Wähler party, a German political group known for advocating for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), has proposed a series of measures to revitalize the mechanical engineering sector in Germany. Hubert Aiwanger, the party's Federal Chairman, is spearheading these efforts, emphasizing the need for Germany to become more innovative and competitive in the global market.
At the 15th German Mechanical Engineering Summit in Berlin, the Freie Wähler Federal Association called for better framework conditions to support the industry. Aiwanger, in his address, highlighted the challenges facing the sector, including rising costs for energy, taxes, and bureaucracy, ongoing trade disputes, and unreliable access to raw materials.
In response, Aiwanger proposed a comprehensive economic concept focused on digitalization, automation, AI, and robotics. He also advocated for competitive electricity prices, tax reliefs to alleviate the shortage of skilled workers, and a reduction in corporate taxes to a maximum of 25 percent.
Aiwanger emphasized the importance of raw material security, calling for measures to ensure a steady supply of essential resources. He also stressed the need for open markets, reliable rules in global trade, and a strong industrial policy as location policy.
The Freie Wähler's proposed industrial policy includes targeted startup promotion, deregulation, entrepreneur-friendly policies, strengthening of craftsmanship and SMEs, and measures to stop the ongoing exodus of the key mechanical engineering industry. Aiwanger's ultimate goal is to prevent a similar trend in all industrial sectors and to secure Germany's industrial foundation, thereby preventing deindustrialization.
The mechanical engineering industry in Germany, the most important industrial employer, is at risk due to these challenges. Aiwanger points out that one in five jobs in the sector could be at risk. By implementing these proposed measures, the Freie Wähler aim to preserve this vital industry and maintain Germany's competitive edge in the global market.
In light of China's pragmatic efforts to strengthen its industry, Aiwanger calls for the federal government to make bold decisions to secure Germany's industrial future. The Freie Wähler's proposed measures are intended to ensure that Germany remains a leader in innovation and manufacturing, and to create a more favourable environment for businesses and workers alike.
