Racing icon Ferrari makes a dramatic entrance into the world of sailing with the unveiling of Hypersail.
What's the freakin' deal with the Ferrari Hypersail?
Get ready to be floored, 'cause the Ferrari Hypersail is about to redefine nautical performance and innovation! Standing in the big leagues with brands like Coca-Cola, McDonald's, Google, Apple, and of course, Ferrari, this is one project that sets sail for greatness.
Hypersail is a 100-ft yacht that's gonna be the talk of the town, setting new standards for speed, performance, and victory in the yachting world. Ferrari's expertise in design, aerodynamics, performance, endurance, and innovation, combined with the wisdom of the sailing world, creates a vessel that's gonna leave the competition hull-ess!
Giovanni Soldini, team principal, is leading this groundbreaking project, aiming to explore new frontiers in technology and innovation. Building on Ferrari's tradition of drawing inspiration from Hypercar, a three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Hypersail yacht will push boundaries and expand the technological horizons.
Designed by renowned French naval architect Guillaume Verdier, the Hypersail is a unique 100-ft flying ocean-racing mono-hull prototype. Once it's up to speed, the hull will rise out of the water, using three points of contact with the water for stability. The star innovation is the canting keel that supports one of the foils, while the other contact points are the foil on the rudder and the two lateral foils.
Ferrari Chairman, John Elkann, explained, "Hypersail is a new challenge that pushes us to go beyond our boundaries and expand our technological horizons. At the same time, it perfectly aligns with Ferrari’s tradition, drawing inspiration from our Hypercar."
When it comes to technology transfer, this project is essential for Ferrari. The yacht will sail using a flight control system developed with the help of the automotive sector. Inventive solutions were always sought, so it's no surprise that Ferrari filed nine patents during the design process.
Soldini shared his excitement, "From a nautical perspective, it's innovative in both its structure and how it flies; on the systems front, Ferrari's contribution is driving the development of onboard control technology that has never been seen before."
The Hypersail will operate without a combustion engine, running exclusively on renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and kinetic energy. So, buckle up, yachting enthusiasts, as 2026 is when the Ferrari Hypersail sets sail!
