California Startup Unveils Fastest Charging E-Bike

In an exciting development for the electric bicycle industry, California-based startup Morelle has announced the creation of the world's fastest charging battery-powered bicycle. Named Morelle, this innovative e-bike is scheduled for sale in the first quarter of 2026.

Key to Morelle's rapid charging capabilities is its 350-Wh down-tube-integrated battery with a silicon anode. This advanced battery enables a full charge in under 15 minutes, significantly outpacing the typical e-bike charging times of 3–6 hours or even as low as 2 hours on some models.

The battery's exceptional charging power, around 1,000 to 1,200 watts (Level M2 charging), is a marked improvement over the usual 100 to 300 watts (Level M1) for typical e-bikes. This high power allows for the drastically reduced charging time.

Morelle replaces the standard graphite anode found in most lithium-ion batteries with a silicon anode, which has roughly 10 times the energy capacity of graphite. This innovative chemistry increases energy density and dramatically speeds up charging.

The e-bike is equipped with a high-torque mid-drive motor capable of speeds up to 28 mph (45 km/h), while maintaining a lightweight build (around 30 lbs). This combination of speed and weight makes Morelle ideal for urban commuting.

The battery is integrated into the down tube for a sleek, lightweight, and convenient design, suitable for urban environments. The fast-charging capability aims to allow charging “on the fly” without lengthy downtime.

Notably, Morelle's leadership team includes mountain bike pioneer Gary Fisher, lending credibility and innovation prowess to the design and development of this model.

Reservations for Morelle's e-bike can be made through the company's website. A reservation fee of $50 is required for a standard reservation, while a fee of $100 secures a spot in the queue for purchase of one of the very first units. However, it's important to note that no further information about the availability of Morelle beyond the first quarter of 2026 has been provided.

Morelle is also looking into building a fast-charging network for its e-bike by adding micromobility hardware to existing EV charging locations. This initiative aims to further simplify the charging process for Morelle users.

For more details about Morelle's e-bike, including specifications and features, please visit the company's website. With its groundbreaking charging technology and sleek city-style design, Morelle is set to revolutionise the electric bicycle industry.

The high-torque mid-drive motor and the fast-charging, 350-Wh down-tube-integrated battery with a silicon anode make the Morelle e-bike well-suited for urban lifestyles, as it can reach speeds of 28 mph and recharge in under 15 minutes. Morelle's innovative approach extends beyond electric-vehicles, as the company plans to build a fast-charging network by adding micromobility hardware to existing EV charging locations, making technology more accessible in daily life.
