Recycling ambition for mono-material packaging with Nviro1's patented PET closure
In a significant step towards sustainability, Nviro1 has announced the development of a new patented PET closure named NviroCap. Protected under US Patent No. 11,591,141 B2, the NviroCap is a lightweight, 26mm closure designed for water bottles, suitable for both still and carbonated beverages, as well as foods, edible oils, and detergents.
The NviroCap has undergone design and thread innovation for lightweighting purposes, and it boasts a low-friction moulding and sealing system to lessen abrasion. This innovative closure is also designed to be recycled with the bottle or jar it is attached to, promoting closed-loop recycling and facilitating the use of optional post-consumer recycled content.
Nviro1 is actively seeking licensing and manufacturing partnerships with container converters, closure manufacturers, and global brands to bring the NviroCap to market. Several companies are currently seeking licensing and collaboration to produce renewable NviroCap closures, aiming to advance a circular economy model by promoting sustainable packaging, reducing plastic waste, and enhancing recyclability.
Meanwhile, Corvaglia has unveiled two new closures for carton packaging. The Corvaglia closure is intended to be integrated into existing carton packaging filling lines without technical adjustments, and its mono-material construction streamlines its recyclability. Corvaglia has developed a child-resistant polypropylene closure for household products, and a 100% HDPE closure for aseptic carton packaging.
Amcor, another leading packaging company, has also made strides in sustainable packaging solutions. They have unveiled a child-resistant polypropylene closure for household products, designed for weight reduction and recyclability. This closure is suitable for integration into existing bottle systems, including tethered PET caps.
The Amcor closure, like the NviroCap, is designed with shelf appeal in mind, ensuring that sustainable packaging doesn't compromise the visual appeal of products. These innovations highlight the growing importance of sustainable packaging solutions in the industry, as companies strive to reduce their environmental impact while maintaining the quality and appeal of their products.
