Revamped Metal Gear Solid V: Springtime Spiral of the Electric Spring Roll
The British automotive brand MG, now owned by the Chinese manufacturer SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), is set to expand its electric vehicle (EV) news in Germany. The new MG5 EV and MG4 EV models are scheduled to hit German dealerships by the end of May.
Starting with the MG5 EV, this compact electric hatchback boasts a surprisingly precise steering system, offering clear feedback for a smooth driving experience. The MG5 EV also boasts a pleasantly small turning circle of 10.53 meters, making it ideal for navigating city streets.
The standard-range Comfort version of the MG5 EV offers 125 kW (around 170 hp) of power and 250 Nm of torque, with a range of up to 340 km in ideal conditions. The luxury top model, equipped with additional features, retails at 44,990 euros. The comfort version with the smaller battery starts at 37,990 euros, while the stronger, longer-range variant costs 42,990 euros.
The MG5 EV also features the "MG Pilot Custom" option, allowing easy adjustment, storage, or deselection of preferred functions. The vehicle can reach speeds of up to 190 km/h (base model: 170 km/h).
Moving on to the MG4 EV, this SUV model is based on MG's current MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) architecture and is initially available with rear-wheel drive. The new MG4 EV is a 4.47-meter-long, 1.84-meter-wide, and 1.62-meter-tall SUV, offering noticeably more space, with a long wheelbase of 2.73 meters and a trunk capacity of 453 liters.
The larger lithium battery in the MG4 EV, using NMC chemistry, has a capacity of 64 kWh (net 62.1 kWh) and can provide an electric range of up to 480 km in optimal conditions. The vehicle also offers iSMART, a system that enables fast, intelligent, and comfortable interaction between driver and vehicle with a smartphone.
The MG4 EV features a driver's display (10.25 inches) and an infotainment HD display (12.8 inches), both of which are user-friendly. Driver assistance systems in the MG4 EV are abundant, including automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, blind spot detection, cross-traffic warning, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist, adaptive cruise control, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
MG Motor is also expanding its dealer network in Germany, aiming to have 180 to 200, and eventually 300, distribution partners. The company reported nearly 21,000 new registrations in Germany for 2024, a 23.8 percent increase in the first quarter.
Looking ahead, MG Motor plans to bring 17 new models to market in the next three years, including the production version of the MG Roadster Cyberster-based coupe study, Cyber GTS. Monthly payments for the MG5 EV start at 259 euros (4 years, 5000 kilometers each). The MG5 EV has a maximum payload of 370 kilograms.
