SAG Boosts Rheocasting with AI: Improved Quality, Lower Costs
The Salzburg Aluminium Group (SAG) has successfully enhanced its rheocasting process, leading to improved mechanical properties and reduced porosity compared to traditional High-Pressure Die Casting (HPDC). This achievement is attributed to the implementation of AI software, 'Siemens MindSphere', which has brought significant cost savings and a competitive edge.
SAG's integration of AI into its rheocasting process has brought about several benefits. The software enabled real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and optimisation of production parameters, leading to improved process stability. This AI model also identified previously unknown interactions between parameters and quality issues, deepening SAG's understanding of its processes and the causes of scrap.
The AI system linked rheocasting and HPDC PLC system data to quality databases, providing new insights into process and quality aspects. This led to less waste, higher efficiency, and long-term process stability. The AI model even defined optimal process windows and ensured their maintenance through continuous monitoring.
By embracing artificial intelligence in its rheocasting process, SAG has achieved significant improvements. These include better decision-making, faster root cause analysis, reduced emissions, lower scrap rates, and increased yield. The use of AI has not only enhanced SAG's production process but also positioned it competitively in the market.
