Samsung Introduces Galaxy SmartTag2: Enhanced Tracking Device

After the achievement of Samsung Galaxy SmartTag and SmartTag+, the brand unveiled a new addition to the series on a Wednesday: Galaxy SmartTag2. Set to release on October 10, this new version boasts upgrades in various aspects such as the SmartThings Find app, battery life, appearance, and security.

In reference to the revamped SmartThings Find app, users can now enjoy a Compass View feature. This feature enables them to identify the distance and direction of the SmartTag2 relative to their location. Devices with UWB compatibility can utilize this feature. The updated app also presents a full-screen map view and an improved interface intended to be more user-friendly. Moreover, users have a quick access shortcut to the app on their phones.

The SmartTag2 boasts an impressive boost in battery life—a 50% increase over its predecessors, extending the battery life to 500 days. To further increase the battery life, the device now includes a Power Saving Mode, which can extend it to an astounding 700 days when activated. This is over double the lifetime of its predecessors and nearly twice that of Apple's Airtag.

Two design enhancements are particularly noteworthy. The SmartTag2 features a redesigned, ring-shaped structure that's more compact than its predecessors. This is a significant improvement over the prior design, which was perceived as obtrusive and bulky. Despite bearing a ring design in its ancestor, the SmartTag2's ring now has a metallic lining inside the loop to accommodate rugged accessories better. To enhance its ruggedness, the new tag also comes with an IP67 water and dust resistance rating. This can be particularly useful for pet owners.

Regarding security, SmartThings Find encrypts user data and adds an additional layer of protection using Samsung Knox. Moreover, it ensures that the SmartTag can only be tracked by a single device at a time. Users will also receive a notification through the 'Unknown tag alerts' feature once an unknown SmartTag is detected moving with them. This helps prevent unauthorized tracking.

In the anticipation of the tech-savvy future, Samsung continues to innovate, with the SmartTag2 promising advanced security features. Powered by Samsung Knox, the SmartThings Find app protects user data and prevents unauthorized tracking, ensuring your belongings are secure.

Looking forward, advances in technology such as UWB will further enhance the capabilities of devices like the SmartTag2, providing more precise location services and improving overall user experience.
