Satellite endeavor initiated by Orange in Wallis and Futuna: the Nuanua project
The Nuanua project, an ambitious initiative by Orange and SES, aims to revolutionize internet connectivity for the remote French overseas territory of Wallis and Futuna in the South Pacific. This joint venture focuses on modernizing the existing satellite network with SES's O3b mPOWER technology, offering high-speed broadband internet to the islands.
Currently, the Wallis and Futuna Islands are served by a single submarine cable, which can limit internet access in the event of disruptions. The Nuanua project addresses this issue by providing a more reliable and sustainable connectivity solution.
Orange, with its commitment to connecting remote territories and enhancing essential digital services, is at the forefront of this project. The Nuanua project reflects Orange's expertise in the satellite domain and its dedication to developing the digital economy of the territory.
The project, co-financed by the European Union under the "Connecting Europe Facilities - Digital" programme, is expected to last six months and be operational by the end of the first half of 2025.
The improved digital infrastructure supported by the Nuanua project will bring about numerous benefits. In addition to its focus on connectivity, the Nuanua project incorporates a responsible approach to the environment. Solar panels will be installed over an area of 170 m2 to optimize the power supply for the installations and reduce the carbon footprint of the Orange group.
Nadine Allen, the global head of enterprise and cloud, has partnered with Orange on the Nuanua project. Jean-Louis Le Roux, the president of Orange Wallis and Futuna, has stated that the Nuanua project showcases Orange's expertise in the satellite domain and its commitment to developing the digital economy of the territory.
