Simplified Game Awards logo demonstrates less is often more effective
The Game Awards 2025 Unveils a Fresh, Minimalist Logo
The Game Awards, one of the biggest events in the gaming industry, is set to return in December with a fresh, new look. The event's logo has been redesigned by Vienna-based STUDIO HERRSTRÖM, marking a departure from the original design by Pentagram.
The new logo is a bold, monolinear mark that presents a more minimalist and abstract interpretation of the original. It is inspired by the wings of the iconic angel trophy, making it cleaner, bolder, and more versatile across different applications, such as digital platforms and stage sets.
The resulting identity for The Game Awards 2025 is sharp, edgy, and fits a gaming aesthetic, yet also feels noble and sophisticated. A system of dynamic linear and nonlinear elements, inspired by the sweep of angel wings, directs focus during key moments in the event, such as winner announcements and nominee highlights. These frames and patterns serve for on-screen overlays and stage backdrops.
The choice of typography in the new identity emphasizes the mix of modern minimalism and prestige. Gellix, a geometric sans-serif, and ABC Arizona Serif, a classical serif, have been used to create a balanced and refined look. The new brand colour palette includes a baroque gold, crisp black, and white, adding an air of elegance to the event.
Last year, The Game Awards had a record 154 million live streams during its 10th anniversary. With the new, refreshed look, it is expected to attract even more viewers this year. Notable attendees at the 2024 event included Snoop Dogg and Twenty One Pilots.
