Sono Solar & Mitsubishi Team Up for Solar-Powered Refrigeration Units
Sono Solar and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Transport Europe (MTTE) have joined forces to create a photovoltaic solution for refrigeration units in semi-trailers. This innovative technology enables electrical or hybrid operation, marking a significant step towards greener transport.
The solution, set to debut in other vehicle types like small vans soon, combines MTTE's TEF1500 refrigeration unit with Sono's solar system. This includes an intelligent charger for a continuous solar power supply.
Driven by increasing demand for low-emission, fuel-efficient technologies in Europe's refrigerated transport sector, this partnership aims to meet regulatory requirements, combat high diesel prices, and contribute to climate goals. Transport companies, refrigerated transport operators, and fleet managers can now test a fully equipped semi-trailer featuring the integrated system. Bjørn Reckhorn, Managing Director of MTTE, envisions electrically operated refrigeration units with solar integration as the future of transport refrigeration.
Sono Solar and MTTE's collaborative effort brings a sustainable solution to the refrigerated transport sector. With regulatory pressure, high fuel costs, and climate concerns mounting, this technology offers a practical path towards greener, more efficient operations.
