In the ever-evolving world of international trade, encountering issues with the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) can be a headache for importers, exporters, agents, software houses, Community System Providers, government departments, and Loaders or Carriers. However, HMRC has made it easier to report these problems, ensuring a swift resolution.

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to report a problem with the CDS, here's what you should do:

1. **Email HMRC at [email protected]**: This is the recommended channel for urgent enquiries related to problems with the CDS.

2. **Provide Essential Details**: In your email, clearly state the type of organisation reporting the issue. Follow this with a detailed description of the problem encountered.

For imports, you may need to include your Local Reference Number, Movement Reference Number, error code, and a description of the problem. For exports, you may need the Declaration Unique Consignment Reference, Master Unique Consignment Reference, movement details, commodity codes, country of destination, inventory details status message, conversation ID from your software, error code, and a description of the problem.

3. **Check Your Answers Before Submitting**: Before hitting send, double-check all the information you've provided to ensure accuracy.

4. **Submit the Form**: Once you're satisfied with your email, send it off. After submission, you'll receive a confirmation email with a reference number.

5. **The Form Will Not Remain Online**: Please note that the online form will not remain available once you've submitted it.

6. **Urgent Issues Will Be Addressed Promptly**: If your problem is considered urgent, you'll receive a response within 2 hours. For all other problems, you can expect a response within 24 hours.

Remember, prompt and precise communication is key to a swift resolution. So, when you encounter issues with the CDS, follow these steps to ensure a smooth resolution process. Happy trading!
