Sustainable Architecture for Efficient Data Storage Facilities

In today's digital age, the profitability of businesses is increasingly reliant on managing energy costs in data centres. To address this growing need, a comprehensive 2-day Green Data Centre Design Course has been designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to green their data centres effectively.

Day 1: Introduction to Green Data Centres and SS 564 Standard

The course begins with an overview of data centre energy consumption and its environmental impact, emphasising the importance of sustainability and energy efficiency in data centres. Participants will learn about key principles and benefits of green data centre design.

The focus then shifts to understanding SS 564, the Singapore Standard for Energy Efficient Data Centres. Topics covered include the background and scope of SS 564, categorisation of data centres, key performance metrics, energy efficiency requirements, and design guidelines.

Cooling and air management strategies are also discussed, with a focus on energy-efficient cooling technologies, hot aisle/cold aisle containment, free cooling, renewable energy integration possibilities, and more. Power and electrical systems are explored, covering efficient power distribution design, UPS and backup power systems, low loss transformers, and power usage monitoring and optimization.

Day 2: Green Mark Framework and Application to Data Centres

Day 2 delves into the Green Mark framework and its application to data centres. Participants will learn about Singapore’s Green Mark certification scheme by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), its objectives, benefits, and applicability to new build and retrofit of existing data centres.

The course covers the Green Mark assessment criteria for data centres, including energy efficiency requirements, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, sustainable site planning, and innovation. Detailed case studies and practical applications are presented, providing insights into exemplary certified green data centres and the SS 564 and Green Mark documentation process.

The course concludes with a workshop, where participants engage in a group exercise to design a data centre layout meeting SS 564 and Green Mark criteria. Data centre energy audit demonstrations, Q&A sessions, and discussions on challenges and future trends in green data centres are also included.

Additional Notes

  • Participants may receive reference materials such as copies of SS 564 standard excerpts, Green Mark submission guides, and checklists.
  • The syllabus may be customised based on audience background (designers, engineers, facility managers) and the latest updates in standards.

By the end of this course, participants will have gained in-depth knowledge of SS564 and Green Mark for New and Existing Data Centres, empowering them to green their data centres and contribute to a more sustainable digital future.

For those interested in increasing the reach and visibility of their course content, EB Publishing offers a service that facilitates the publication of news, events, jobs, and thought leadership. With features like the "Publish now" button, participants can share their knowledge immediately with a targeted audience.

Technology plays a crucial role in the course, as it is delivered remotely using data-and-cloud-computing platforms to reach a wider audience.

The comprehensive Green Data Centre Design Course leverages technology to teach participants about SS 564 and the Green Mark framework, equipping them with the skills needed to create energy-efficient and sustainable data centres.
