Sweden Rules Out Sabotage in Ventspils Subsea Cable Damage
Sweden has ruled out sabotage as the cause of recent damage to a submarine fiber optic cable near Ventspils. The incident, which occurred on Friday, February 28, has been resolved with normal service fully resumed following swift repairs.
The cable connection was successfully completed in the morning of the incident. Further work to lower the cable into the seabed was ongoing and expected to be finished later that day. LVRTC Board Chairman Ģirts Ozols emphasized the importance of crisis preparedness following the incident. The investigation into the cable damage is currently underway, with potential involvement from various local and international authorities depending on the nature of the cable. These could include the Lettish Coast Guard, the International Maritime Organization, or energy agencies like the Lettish Energy Agency.
The damaged submarine fiber optic cable has been repaired, and normal service has been restored. Authorities are investigating the cause of the damage, with the outcome expected to determine which agencies will be involved in the probe.
