Google is currently testing a new layout for its AI-powered assistant, Gemini, designed to enhance the user experience on tablets. The updated layout, reminiscent of the web version, is expected to reduce wasted space and provide a more streamlined experience.

The new layout features a sidebar for quick chat access, a hamburger menu to open it, and shortcuts to start new chats or search old ones. This sidebar makes it easy to access past Gemini chats, and the full-screen mode hides the sidebar, providing a clean, no-frills view.

Key features like "Video," "Search," "Research," and "Canvas" are prominently placed in the new layout, making them easily accessible. A new "Search History" feature has been introduced, allowing users to dig up old chats by typing in keywords or topics.

The layout also includes a dropdown to switch between different Gemini models. The prompt bar in the new layout features buttons for the mentioned key tools, with "Deep Research" and "Canvas" now front and centre.

Despite the positive changes, Google has not yet announced a specific release date for the tablet-friendly Gemini layout. User feedback on the App Store has highlighted the need for better compatibility and UI adjustments for tablets and iPads.

Google's recent developer and product updates have primarily focused on Gemini's AI coding tools and cloud integrations, rather than app UI layout changes for tablets. It is, therefore, advisable to monitor Google's official Gemini app update notes and announcements for any future enhancements to tablet support.

The updated tablet layout, as seen in the latest Google app beta, is being reported by Android Authority. Google continues to test new features and tweaks for Gemini, and we eagerly await further details about the tablet-ready Gemini layout.
