Tech giant Google unveils the Pixel 10 Pro Fold in a fresh promotional teaser, granting a glimpse of upcoming specifics
Rumours and excitement surrounding Google's latest offering, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, have reached a fever pitch. The device, set to be unveiled on August 20, has been the centre of attention due to its MagSafe-like feature and other intriguing details.
Evan Blass, a renowned tech insider, recently shared new renders of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, showcasing its charging device that bears a striking resemblance to Apple's MagSafe system. This feature is expected to support wireless charging using the Qi2 standard, a first for foldable phones.
Beyond the teaser video, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers several notable features and detailed specifications. The device boasts two displays: an outer cover display of 6.4-inch AMOLED, with a resolution of 2364 x 1080, a 1-120Hz refresh rate, and a brightness of up to 3000 nits, a significant improvement from its predecessor. The inner folding display is an 8-inch Super Actua Flex Display, the largest in the foldable phone market, with improved durability, ultra-thin glass, and dual layers of anti-impact film.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is constructed with aerospace-grade aluminum, enhancing its strength and premium feel. It also features a new gearless hinge design that is twice as durable as its predecessor and tested for over 10 years of folding. Remarkably, the device will also have an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, a first for foldable phones, offering protection comparable to non-foldable Pixel phones.
Under the hood, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is powered by the Tensor G5 chipset paired with 16GB RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB using UFS 4.0 technology. This ensures high performance on par with the Pixel 10 Pro XL.
The camera system is another standout feature, featuring a triple rear cameras: a 48MP wide (f/1.7), a 10.5MP ultrawide (f/2.2), and a newly introduced 10.8MP 5x telephoto lens (f/3.1). The front cameras are optimised for selfies and video calls, with 10MP on both the cover and inner displays.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will have a 5,015 mAh battery capacity, supporting 30W wired charging and Qi2 wireless charging, a first for foldable phones and compatible with Google's new Pixelsnap magnetic accessories. The device will be available in two colours, Moonstone (lighter than last year’s Obsidian) and Jade.
Google is also reportedly planning to release magnetic accessories under the name Pixelsnap, which may include a MagSafe-like attachment, a dock, and a vertical smartphone stand.
While the teaser does not reveal any information about the Pixel 10 Pro Fold's technical specifications, gadget enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting more details. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold's external display will have a 6.4-inch diagonal and a peak brightness of 3000 nits. It will also feature 16GB of RAM and will be powered by Google's new Tensor G5 processor. The cameras will be similar to those of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold: a main 48-megapixel module, a 10.5-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 10.8-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and two 10-megapixel front-facing cameras.
Users can choose between 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB of built-in storage for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The device will have two 10-megapixel front-facing cameras: one on the external screen and one on the internal screen. Finally, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will have IP68 certification, offering full dust protection and water resistance up to 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes.
With its MagSafe-like feature, durable design, powerful performance, and advanced camera system, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is shaping up to be a strong competitor in the foldable market, particularly against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, due to its IP68 rating and Qi2 wireless charging features that are firsts in the foldable market.
