Tech Island Construction Kicks Off in Cape Verde, Aspiring to Secure West Africa's Tech Hub Position
New €45.59 Million Tech Hub Launches in Cape Verde
Cape Verde has officially launched TechPark CV, a state-of-the-art technology hub designed to serve as a regional digital innovation center. Funded by the government and the African Development Bank, the hub aims to connect technology, talent, partnerships, and entrepreneurship, positioning Cape Verde as a strategic digital bridge between Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
Located across two campuses in Praia (Santiago Island) and Mindelo (Saõ Vicente Island), TechPark CV spans an area that can accommodate up to 1,500 workers. Over 300 companies, including Intel, Microsoft, and Smart Africa, are attending the launch, with senior executives from the global tech sector in attendance.
The key objectives of TechPark CV include supporting youth careers, local innovators, and startups, fostering international collaboration, and establishing Cape Verde as a regional digital powerhouse. To achieve these goals, the hub offers a Talent and Innovation Hub, coworking spaces, training centres, conference halls, and high-speed connectivity.
TechPark CV is also committed to sustainability, using renewable energy and clean energy sources in line with Cape Verde’s commitment to sustainability and green tech development. As part of Cape Verde’s Digital Nation strategy, it supports public policies and funding mechanisms aimed at fostering digital entrepreneurship, especially among youth and female entrepreneurs, both locally and in the diaspora.
The hub is also a catalyst for digital transformation, with backing and development from the African Development Bank, the ECOWAS, and other international partners. TechPark CV aims to become a strategic hub for emerging technologies in West Africa, positioning itself as a hub for AI, blockchain, fintech, big data, and IoT.
To attract international companies and boost local competitiveness and research, TechPark CV offers tax breaks, including a 2.5% corporate tax rate and VAT/import tax exemptions under its ZEET (Special Economic Zone for Technologies) designation. The park is also a launchpad for African startups, with its mid-Atlantic location and Cape Verdean hospitality making it an attractive destination for entrepreneurs.
Key speakers at the event include Cape Verde's Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva and AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, as well as ex-French Minister Elisabeth Moreno. With 23 companies already based at the park and more expected to follow, TechPark CV is poised to drive regional digital transformation and establish Cape Verde as a vibrant regional tech hub that fosters innovation, economic growth, and global connectivity.
