Tennessee University upgrade basketball arena's sound system with Martin Audio line array
The Murphy Center at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in Murfreesboro has received a significant upgrade to its sound system, thanks to Nashville-based Spectrum Sound Inc. The new system, designed to replace the outdated PA, focuses on modern performance, reliability, consistent coverage, high speech intelligibility, and full-range musical reproduction in the 11,520-seat venue.
Spectrum Sound Inc was tasked with creating a custom solution for the arena, taking into account its unique acoustic challenges, such as reflective glass walls and reverberant acoustics. To achieve this, they turned to Martin Audio's Wavefront Precision (WPS and WPM) line array series, renowned for their advanced control and optimization capabilities.
The new system at The Murphy Center is a testament to Spectrum Sound's expertise in designing and installing custom audio solutions. Close collaboration with Martin Audio's Product & Application Support Manager, Joe Lima, ensured precise coverage and proper implementation of the design.
The WPS line array system offers scalable, adaptable sound coverage, delivering clear speech and powerful full-range music suitable for a variety of events, from basketball games to conferences and graduations. A 360° subwoofer array was also designed with Martin Audio’s assistance to enhance low-frequency performance across the venue.
The choice of Martin Audio was strongly influenced by the Wavefront Precision series’ optimization technology, which enables precise aiming of sound only where needed, ensuring clarity and coverage throughout the arena. This technology ensures that the new system provides precise coverage only where it is needed, improving the overall audio experience for all events held in the venue.
The installation contract for the new system was won by Spectrum Sound Inc, a Nashville-based company with a history in audio production services since 1979. The company's increasing reliance on Martin Audio for its installed sound solutions is a testament to the quality and performance of the products.
