ADAC's Four-Year Endurance Test Reveals Volkswagen ID.3's Durability and Quality

The ADAC, Germany's leading automobile club, has conducted a four-year endurance test on the Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S01, marking the first of its kind for a model in the ID series. The test aimed to evaluate the durability of the high-voltage battery and the overall quality of the vehicle.

The ID.3 was subjected to a gruelling test covering over 160,000 kilometers. During this period, the vehicle was charged at fast-charging stations for over 40 percent of the time and parked fully charged for several days, contrary to usual recommendations. Despite these challenging conditions, the ID.3 withstood the stress without any major weaknesses.

The high-voltage battery of the ID.3 showed no significant weaknesses, maintaining a high capacity even after extensive use. After 160,000 kilometers, the battery still had a net capacity of 91 percent, exceeding the guaranteed 70 percent after eight years or 160,000 kilometers. This result confirms that the Volkswagen ID.3's battery is durable and attractive as a used car, continuing to meet customer demands.

The ID.3's body, suspension, and steering also performed well, with no issues found after 160,000 kilometers. The axles and suspension are up to the task of supporting the vehicle's weight.

The ID.3 received several software updates during the endurance test, which improved charging performance and efficiency. The charging performance increased to up to 170 kW through updates. Additionally, the integrated e-route planner was updated to consider the charging status, traffic situation, and forecasts for faster destination arrival.

Volkswagen's sales chief Martin Sander stated, "The high battery capacity of over 90 percent after 160,000 kilometers confirms that our ID models are attractive as used cars and continue to meet customer demands." The ADAC strongly recommends "Software updates should always be installed."

The test was conducted at the ADAC's test and technology center in Landsberg am Lech, Germany. The results provide clarity on the vehicle's everyday suitability and suggest that the Volkswagen ID.3 is well-suited for long-term use and high-mileage driving.

The testing of Volkswagen's ID.3 Pro S01 on a four-year endurance trial highlighted its compatibility with modern consumer lifestyles, as it proven to be durable and adaptable even when charged at fast-charging stations for extensive periods and parked for prolonged durations. The incorporation of technology, such as electric-vehicles and up-to-date software updates, aligns well with the rapidly evolving field of automotive technology and the increasing preference for sustainable cars.
