Thai Authorities Shut Down Major IPTV Piracy Network

Thai authorities, in collaboration with international partners, have dealt a significant blow to piracy in the country. The IPTV platform, previously known as FWIPTV and later as INWIPTV, has been shut down following raids led by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI). The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) and True Visions supported the operation.

The raids, conducted in Bangkok and Nonthaburi, resulted in the seizure of over 150 items of evidence. This included 46 servers and IPTV boxes, highlighting the scale of the operation. Twelve employees were questioned during the raids.

INWIPTV, which had been operating since 2012, charged around 300 baht (€7.60) a month for access to international and Thai content. Its closure marks a major victory in the fight against piracy in Thailand and across Asia. Larissa Knapp, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Protection Officer at the MPA, praised the DSI's action, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in tackling such issues.

The closure of INWIPTV demonstrates the effectiveness of partnerships between local and international enforcement agencies. Sompan Charumilinda, Executive Vice Chairman of True Visions, highlighted the positive impact of the operation, stating that it protects Thai youth and supports the creative economy by combating piracy.
