The Point System in Pokemon TCG Pocket Packs Needs Immediate Redesign

In the world of Pokémon TCG Pocket, players are currently enjoying the game's unique pack points system, earning five points for each card pack opened. However, these points are currently locked to the specific sets they were earned from, a situation that the game's developers, Creatures Inc. and DeNA, are considering changing.

Currently, a player might have 210 pack points for the latest set, Secluded Springs, and 700 for the first-ever expansion, Genetic Apex. While these points can be used to acquire rare cards within their respective sets, they cannot be transferred to other sets. This limitation has sparked discussions about the introduction of universal pack points, an account-wide currency that could be used on any in-game card set.

This proposed change would create a greater sense of parity between free-to-play and paying players. Currently, to obtain the rarest cards from a set, players may need to trade in 35, 500, 1,250, or 2,500 pack points. With universal pack points, players would have the freedom to use their hard-earned points to chase after their favourite rare cards, regardless of the set they belong to.

The expansion sets in Pokémon TCG Pocket are released on a monthly basis, and the game has generated over $900 million in revenue in its first six months, surpassing that of Pokémon Go in the same post-release time span. The author of this piece believes that universal pack points are a win-win for players and DeNA alike, as they could encourage players to spend more on pack openings, thereby increasing the game's revenue.

However, the author also acknowledges that this change could potentially lead to an imbalance in the game, with players spending excessively to acquire rare cards. To mitigate this, the author suggests an overhaul of the pity system, making the game fairer and giving more players a real chance to get the rarest cards.

The current pity system in Pokémon TCG Pocket is a guarantee of a certain reward after a certain amount of pack openings. The author believes that this system should be revamped to provide a more consumer-friendly experience, ensuring that players feel rewarded for their commitment to the game without feeling a manufactured sense of guilt when using their pack points.

The developers of Pokémon TCG Pocket, Creatures Inc. and DeNA, have shown their commitment to improving the game's user experience. With the proposed changes to the pack points system and the pity system, they aim to make Pokémon TCG Pocket an even more enjoyable experience for all players, allowing them to continue enjoying the thrill of opening card packs and finding their favourite Pokémon illustrations.
