The Sequel to "Eternals" Seems Unlikely, and Kit Harington Shows Little Concern

Kickin' It With Kit Harington: Time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Appears to Be Over

In an exclusive chat with GQ, Kit Harington seems to have bid farewell to his brief stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as the dark and fearless knight, Dane "The Black Knight" Whitman. Leaving the colossal franchise of Chloe Zhao's Eternals behind, it appears his character's unforeseen return might not be in the cards anymore.

Following the less-than-impressive turnout of Eternals in 2021, rumors suggest that a sequel has been axed (reports from Variety, pulling from the same profile, claim that an Eternals sequel was on the backburner). Furthermore, Harington's anticipated appearance in the embattled Blade reboot remains uncertain at this juncture, owing to his lukewarm feelings about his time in the MCU. "I ain't gonna pretend I dived into that [role] because it was fresh and unique," Harington openly admitted about Eternals. "If Marvel phones, you got to answer the call."

Seems like the gripping saga left by Eternals will have to find a new stage-hello, the forthcoming Captain America movie, slated to delve into the tale of the petrified Celestial corpse floating in the Indian Ocean.

Yet, this departure opens a door for Harington to soar as an actor. Eager to shake off his Game of Thrones past, Harington asserts, "If you've been the main dude in something, and you can argue that I got the gig because of my look. The fear is that that's your only value. And for me, as the years pass, that fades away. I'm learning to accept [that] no, I'm an actor. And I've been around for a spell. And I'm still working. So, at some point, I gotta admit that might have something to do with my talent as well." Therefore, we can assume a reunion with the MCU is unlikely in the near future.
